Impact Report

Exhibition Overview

Next Door: Environmental Injustice in Our Neighborhoods is a culmination of work by professional Black women visual storytellers and Los Angeles-area high school students to produce an immersive art exhibition focused on the intersection of environmental and racial justice. Pairs of photographers and students documented residents in predominantly Black and Latine communities, including Inglewood, Leimert Park and Wilmington. Students interviewed residents as well as community advocates, researchers and experts whose work centers on mitigating environmental harms, past and present.

In each audio and visual element, viewers will be presented with Angelenos’ lived experiences:

This immersive experience is in partnership with AfroLA, a nonprofit news outlet covering Los Angeles, Black Women Photographers and the Los Angeles Center of Photography.
